JCB integrates insect traps and UV-free lamps for museums, libraries and archives into its services.

As of January 2022, JCB CONSERVACIÓN integrates in its preventive conservation services and integral pest management IPM, traps and lamps for the monitoring and control of insect pests.
The range of products are intended for the detection and monitoring of insect pests, without any risk for the collections. All traps are eco-friendly and chemical-free. The lamps of the MUSEUM range do not emit UV rays, in this way, the lamps of our range can be placed in reserves or rooms with works of art, without risk of accelerated aging of the components of the works.

Museums such as the Louvre in Paris, the Château de Versailles or the Centre Pompidou, have trusted our services.

You can find in the PDF hereunder the prices of the traps. We will put at your disposal the prices of the UV rays-free lamps-traps.

CONSERVATION TREATMENT OF 16 MONUMENTAL SCULPTURES BY THE ARTIST EMILIE BRZEZINSKI AT THE IVAM: DISINSECTION AND PREVENTIVE CONSERVATION OPERATIONS.

16 monumental sculptures by Emilie Brezinski belonging to the collection of the IVAM Institut Valencià d ́Art Modern (Valencia, Spain) have been treated with the ICM mobile unit on site, at the museum installations.

The trunk sculptures belong to a large sculptural group that were made by the artist in 2010. The wooden logs, covered on the inside with photographic paper, presented an active infestation of a various xylophagous insects.

The handling of the pieces was a challenge since the weight of the sculptures varies between 200 and 300 kilos. On the other hand, the fragility of the glue of the photographic paper and the thickness of the wood of the logs was always considered, adapting the parameters of relative humidity and temperature during the treatment in the mobile unit to avoid any damage on the materials of the works of art.

SUMMARY OF THE WORKSHOP INTEGRAL MANAGEMENT OF BIOLOGICAL CONTAMINATIONS IN MOVABLE HERITAGE. PEST CONTROL AND DISINSECTION WITH THE ICM® MOBILE UNIT

IVAM, 23 AND 24 NOVEMBER 2021

80 cultural heritage managers attended the program of the theoretical-practical workshop held at the IVAM in Valencia on November 23 and 24, 2021. The program divided into two days consisted of a theoretical and a practical day. On the first day, the methodology and operation of disinsection of cultural heritage with the ICM method were presented in a series of conferences with international experts. On the second day, attendees were able to access the mobile treatment unit, that was installed at the doors of the museum. Within the mobile unit, works of different kinds were treated: polychrome sculptures (sixteenth century), oils on canvas (eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries), furniture (eighteenth and nineteenth centuries) and archival documents (early twentieth century).

We thank the IVAM, the Arxiu del Regne de València and the different private collectors for their collaboration in the workshop and the trust placed in JCB CONSERVACION.

JCB CONSERVATION concludes the intervention of two canvases and their respective frames: Virgin with child (Madrid School of the XVIII) and portrait of a gentleman (1893)

Two small format canvases went on intervention in the workshops of JCB CONSERVATION. The two works presented deformations, old varnishes and losses in the pictorial layer.

The portrait of a gentleman signed and dated: G. HAUSHALTER 1893, has been reinforced with re-lining bands to enable it to adjust to its frame, with this system the deformations of the support were corrected. The pictorial layer has been superficially cleaned with a buffer solution, thus eliminating the remains of old varnishes that subsisted on the painting surface.

The Virgin with Child featured several layers of old varnishes and blackened antique retouching, which have been removed with a mixture of medium/low penetration organic solvents. Subsequently, the canvas has been protected with a layer of dammar varnish diluted to 5%.

The frames of the two canvases, contemporaries of the paintings, have also undergone intervention (reconstruction of missing part, gilding)

Launch of ICM® technology (for the disinsectisation and decontamination of works of art and archives) in Spain.

In the last few weeks, the teams of JCB CONSERVACION (Valencia, Spain) and IPARC/ICM® (Kampenhout, Belgium) have met both in Belgium (IPARC/ICM® headquarters) and Spain to discuss the launch of the ICM® technology in Spain.

The ICM® technology is a breakthrough in the treatment of disinfestation and decontamination of works of art and archives. It allows, through short cycles (24 hours) with controlled heat and humidity, to eliminate all insects at any stage of their life cycle. The method is environmentally friendly and simple to apply (compared to traditional methods).

After the different meetings, including local institutions (IVAM Valencia, UPV, Catedra UNESCO, Archivo del Reino de Valencia…) a presentation workshop is planned for the end of November 2021 to present the ICM® technology to Spanish conservator-restorers and to bring the ICM® mobile unit chamber to Valencia, Spain, to carry out the first treatments.

The ICM® mobile unit will be available on the Spanish territory from the end of November 2021 until the end of January 2022.
